Scholarship Opportunities

  • The Scholarships for Disadvantaged Students (SDS) program provides scholarships for full-time students from disadvantaged backgrounds who are enrolled in the Master of Science in Midwifery program at Bastyr University - including those from underrepresented racial, ethnic, or socioeconomic populations. The SDS program can help fund up to $40,000 per academic year in tuition, costs, and living expenses for eligible students who are awarded this scholarship.

Scholarship for Disadvantaged Students

The primary purpose of the Myers Midwifery Scholarship Fund is to provide financial support for students of color to complete the Master of Science in Midwifery (MSM) program, as one part of a community strategy to increase the number of midwives of color in the profession.

Begun in 2009, the scholarship was named in honor of founder Suzy Myers, LM, CPM, MPH, and former Executive Director Jo Anne Myers-Ciecko, MPH

The purpose of the award is to recognize students and new graduates (within one year of graduation) from the MSM and MCHS programs, who have demonstrated exceptional leadership and the potential to make significant contributions to development of the profession through participation in professional associations, research pursuits, and/or community service. Award levels vary year-to-year depending on the funds available and number of recipients.

In June 1999, H. Joe Myers and Barbara J. Myers established a fund at the Seattle Midwifery School to make this award in honor of their daughter Jo Anne Myers-Ciecko upon completion of her Master in Public Health degree. Jo Anne retired as Executive Director of Seattle Midwifery School in 2003 after 25 years of service.
