Dr. Jose Angel Barrientos is a licensed Naturopathic Doctor that uses evidence-based medicine to provide excellent integrative patient care. Dr. Angel strongly believes in a patient’s right to information that affects their life and ability to enjoy it with loved ones. As a Naturopathic doctor, he informs patients about lifestyle habits and successful therapies that doctors from all over the world are using to help their patients experience an increased healthspan (the number of years we remain healthy and free from disease)... and not just an increased lifespan (the total number of years lived). After working in the emergency medical field, Dr. Angel decided to become a doctor that focuses on finding the root cause of disease, rather than only suppressing symptoms.
Dr. Angel’s first job, as a teenager, was as a lifeguard. He then went on to respond to 911 calls, by driving an ambulance, as an emergency medical technician in Los Angeles. Upon graduating cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, Dr. Angel attended Bastyr University San Diego (the leading Naturopathic medical school in the world!). Dr. Angel currently provides evidenced-based natural medicine to patients throughout San Diego and teaches the next generation of doctors at Bastyr University San Diego.
In his free time, Dr. Angel enjoys playing the piano and electric guitar, walking his Siberian husky, swimming, and training Jiu-jitsu, Wrestling, Boxing, and Mixed martial arts (especially with his daughter). The discipline and perseverance he’s developed from training in music and martial arts is the same that he applies toward fighting social injustice and educating people on how to optimize their strength, health and vitality!

Dr. Angel’s focus is on Men’s health, Gastrointestinal health, Sports medicine, and Longevity medicine. He also treats many acute and chronic diseases, particularly those that can be managed or prevented by lifestyle habits. Dr. Angel is passionate about working with adults and adolescents, especially those involved in amateur or professional sports.
