Biography

"My hope is that patients will not only feel heard and understood, but that they are able to see and experience their capacity for change, so that they can live the life they want. This includes not only experiencing more immediate relief from symptoms or challenges, but also identifying and working through underlying or contributing factors so they do not keep re-experiencing the same patterns, challenges, and/or symptoms throughout their lives."

Dr. Piper is a licensed psychologist in California. In addition to supervising clinical counselor trainees at Bastyr, she provides psychotherapy in her private practice. Her specialty is helping individuals who experience high levels of shyness and social anxiety feel more confident and relaxed in social situations. She also specializes in working with individuals who experience perfectionism, shame/guilt, depression, self-doubt, and low self-esteem develop greater self-compassion and self-acceptance. Dr. Piper has worked in a variety of settings over the past 10+ years including university counseling centers, outpatient clinics, a charter middle/high school, skilled nursing facilities, a cancer center, a substance abuse treatment center, and a center for children with autism. She has also taught graduate level courses as adjunct faculty and is involved in her local psychological association.
