Derek Kirkham

Dr. Kirkham supervises acupuncture students at Bastyr Center for Natural Health and teaches didactic classes at Bastyr University. He also works in private practice in Seattle.
Dr. Kirkham received his Doctor in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine with a focus in advanced pain management and integrative cancer care from Bastyr University. His Master of Science in Traditional Oriental Medicine is from the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in San Diego, California. Dr. Kirkham is certified in acupuncture and herbal medicine by the National Certification Commission of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine and has a Diplomate of Oriental Medicine.
Dr. Kirkham has a particular focus on using acupuncture and herbal medicine to treat acute and chronic pain, including sport injuries. He has extensive knowledge in the assessment and treatment of back pain, neck pain, joint pain (shoulder, hip, knee, ankle) and headaches. With each patient, he develops a treatment plan that takes into account the unique circumstances of their injury or ailment. In practice, he uses a blend of acupuncture, cupping, gua sha, herbal remedies, supplements, dietary adjustments and health education.
